What is the best kind of pet if you live in Florida

What is the best kind of pet if you live in Florida?
I just moved here and want to get a pet and dont know what kind to get!

indoor only house cat - these are the best no mater where you live - they are less work than dogs and help keep the mice controlled.. get one from a shelter or SPCA.. NEVER from a pet store...

I only know about dogs in Florida. If you get one, you have to be careful of the heat here. Never leave them alone in your car, you will get arrested, because it gets too hot. Don't let them walk on hot pavement. Make sure they have enough water. Fleas are terrible here, but they can be kept under control with applications you get from a Vet, and put on the back of their neck. They must be kept on a leash at all times when you take them outside, that's a state law. Never take them around ponds or lakes, because there are alligators in them, and they will attack and eat a dog.

Everyone I know has pit bulls or tiny little teacup dogs! Seriously.. there is a huge problem with pit bulls in FL!!!

If you get a dog or cat, get one with short fur. Don't get an animal that was meant to live in subarctic conditions. My grandpa lived in Florida and had a Husky. Why? Because he was old and crazy at the time. I have a Lhasa Apso that does not do well in the heat, so I would rule that breed out as well. But if you do go to a shelter and adopt a long haired dog or cat, be kind and have it groomed often. Especially if its fur is really thick and heavy. We have to get our Lhasa shaved several times every summer to keep him comfortable. Good luck and hope this helps!

May I suggest you find one that is hurricane proof and flies well. Other than that it is just up to you own likes and dislikes and how much care you are willing to give a pet. Not all pets are easy keepers.

Do people who live in Florida go to the beach a lot

Do people who live in Florida go to the beach a lot ?
I was just wondering because I'm going to Florida on vacation and all i ever meet is tourists on the beach! Do you guys ever head to the beach? Often? or just every once in a while? :) Those who live near the coast then... although I think people who read my question will understand lol :) sorry for being unclear though.

well i know i go to the beach alot. I like the pool better but the beach is nice to walk/ run on

It depends on where they live and who they are, its kind of like asking someone who lives by mountains if they go to the mountians every day... kind of

i live in florida and the beach is only like an hour away but i only go like 2 or 3 times a year

I live in Orlando. I'm within a decent driving distance to the nearest beach. I know a few people that go to the beach on occasion but I don't know anyone that goes regularly. Personally, I enjoy the beach at night. I never go during the day. I don't really like the combination of sun, sand, salt water and tourists. It's stinky and sticky at the same time.

i have a child support order i pay for my children in canada i now live in florida who now has jurisdiction ?
I just immigrated and married someone from the usa. my children are in canada. i was paying child support directly to canada. i have fallen behind because of the move and immigration waiting period. i live in florida now. have received court papers for non payment of child support. My question will florida child support laws now prevail ? or does it stay canadas laws?

Canada maintains jurisdiction. Your move does not change that. If the children moved that COULD change that.

It stays with the preceding court. It is like that here in the US as well. If you were to divorce in FL and move to TX or NY, the state laws of FL would be the deciding court/laws. Each state has it's own laws. You were better off in Canada.Trust me.
