just retired to florida and became a resident--my husband got a bulk pay in his retirement check and we will be back in massachusetts a few months and work part time--must we pay massachusetts taxes in 2008 now that we are florida residents

Yes. It doesn't necessary matter where you reside. Some states have reciprical agreements with Taxes. Since Florida does not have an income tax, it wouldn't work. You will have to pay Mass. taxes for the income you receive while working in Mass.

Agreed. No matter where you live,you pay taxes where you earn.

In addition to having to pay income tax on work done in MA, you may not have completed your change of residence to FL to MA's satisfaction. In other words, your return to MA to work part time may be considered evidence that you are still an MA resident, and required to pay taxes on all income, even retirement income normally only taxable in your state of residence.
