west coast or panhandle you cant beat the sunsets

Somewhere there's a small airport real close. The hurricane seasons will kill you if you don't get out fast enough. As nice as Florida can be, it's a death trap waiting to happen and global warming is not helping the coastline at all !!

I live on the west coast around Tampa bay. beautiful area. close to everything. beaches, shopping, night life. close to area attractions. 1 1/2 hours from Orlando. 4 hours from the east coast beaches. great place to live.

Key West is full of older people & the cost-of-living is very high (even compared to the rest of FL). To find twenty-something in FL you have to go to a city. It all depends what you're looking for. Miami is a huge, diverse city with lots of job opportunities & beautiful people. Like anywhere in FL, the good neighborhoods are real good and the bad neighborhoods are real bad. The rich are very rich and the poor very poor. Bonus: you'll be a relatively short drive to the keys. You can even take Greyhound down. Tampa is designed to drive everywhere by car. It's very spread out. I like St. Pete or Sarasota better because it's on the water--but you'll be competing with retirees. Sarasota does have an honor college & an art school so there are some younger people there. Orlando downtown is pretty, but not that close to a beach. Outside of Orlando is sprawling suburbia. Daytona is rightfully known for NASCAR and Bike Week. The boardwalk is equally fun and tragic. Not many jobs, not many singles. St. Augustine is a very pretty small city. It has Flagler College so has a little bit of nightlife to cater to younger people. It is a very short drive to St. Augustine Beach. I think it's a great place to visit, but wouldn't want to live there. Gainesville is where the University of Florida is. It's smack dab in the middle of the state so you can spend your weekends at the Gulf or Atlantic. There is a lot of local music, bars, restaurants, but if you need a job expect to work in the service industry or for UF. Jacksonville land wise is huge. It is a bunch of little towns smashed together to make a city. It's where the south meets Florida. There are some great neighborhoods (Riverside/Avondale) & some backwood neighborhoods (Oceanway). It does have a little bit of everything, but doesn't completely have that beach feel it sounds like you're looking for.

... I lived in Fort Lauderdale for 26 years. It's a nice place if you can afford it now. The housing prices have skyrocketed, and the cost of living is high by comparison, but it has a lot to offer. Especially if you are young and single. Key West use to be a nice place to live back in the late 70's and the early 80's, but it has changed considerably. It's really not the "Quaint Artsy Community" that it use to be. T-shirt shops and souvenir stops have all but taken over Duval Street, and the artist community that once was there has moved on to other locations that aren't as commercial. It also costs about 3 times as much to live in Key West as living opposed to living on the mainland. Take a look at this website, it has a lot of info. Lake Mary, FL is listed as #4 in the nation, and it is a beautiful place. It is close to Orlando and the major attractions, but still has a lot of small town charm. My sister and brother-in-law live in Sanford, which borders Lake Mary.

Is the cost of living in Florida too high for me to live in an apartment there, work, and go to college

Is the cost of living in Florida too high for me to live in an apartment there, work, and go to college?
I wanted to move to Florida for college, get a job, and live in an apartment. I'm going to college for 8 years and will be either buying or renting a house in Florida afterwards. I'm going to become a Nurse Practitioner, they make between $79,000 and $90,000 a year in Florida. Will I be able to afford this, or is the cost of living truly too high-like I've heard?

35 miles south of chicago average rent is 900 for a apartment 1400 for a house use that as a scale

where are you going to live/work/go to school...there are 3 distinct parts to FL ( like CA)...north west (panhandle), central (Tallahassee) to Orlando, southern (Orlando to the Keys)..the farther south you go, the more expensive it is...and since we're psychic and know how much you need to live, well I'd tell you to look up some stuff on www.myflorida.com

I doubt it. Im in Tampa and I think its lower here than in most other big cities, but higher than small towns. With the real estate collapse, rents prices are low. I own a nice townhouse im renting out for $995 a month. It has 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, granite countertops and 1345 sq feet. I think its pretty cheap here.

I would look up the place and search the newspapers online. I would like to know also, as I am sick of the cold. When I was down there yrs. ago, I saw condos advertising for good prices (like 35k for 1 block from the beach). I bet the prices may be at that level again, but who knows. Supposedly, Florida has had big problems in foreclosures, but don't rely on the media. If people are buying property, they want to rent to people too. Good luck on the school thing. That is a great thing to get into. As far as affordable, count school cost plus apartment and that could be too much, but if you can get a good paying job outside of school, it could work.

They do best in a rather strong loam, and should be kept tolerably moist. The ground should be trenched 50-100 cm deep, and supplied with plenty of manure, a good proportion of which should lie just below the roots, 25-30 cm from the surface. The plants may be put in on an average about 50-60 cm apart.

You could probably do OK if you condition your soil with a lot of organic matter.. compost, peat moss, potting mix, etc.. Impatiens are thirsty little things and sand doesn't hold moisture very well- that's why I recommend the organics.. to hold moisture. Keep them moist and feed tham well and I think you will do fine with impatiens. Good luck!

If I live in Florida for a summer and become a resident, will I be eligible for in-state tuition

If I live in Florida for a summer and become a resident, will I be eligible for in-state tuition?
I am planning on attending the University of Florida in the fall. I live in Ohio, but next summer I plan on staying in Florida and getting a job. If I become a resident there, will I be eligible for in-state tuition the following 3 years of college?

Ha, actually you have to live in the state for 1-2 years without going to school. There are also very specific reasons for which you must be living in the state to claim residency. Despite what people think, it is actually pretty complicated to claim residency. There are a lot of regulations, so unless you want to put off your studies and get a job and pay state taxes for 1-2 years you will have to pay out of state tuition.

The following year? No. The two years after that? Maybe. Just depends on the schools requirements, usually they require 1 to 2 years, and if they think it's BS, they can requests documentation from you to prove your residency. Such as rent agreement, drivers license, tax information, vehical registration.
